Dynamic Tree Services is a family-owned and operated business, proudly 100% indigenous, boasting more than three decades of expertise in tree care and removal. Our commitment is to deliver top-notch tree maintenance solutions for both residential and commercial clients.

Our business was thriving, covid was a time that kept us extremely busy, and business was coming in so fast that we couldn’t keep up with the demand. We hired a larger crew, going from a 2 man operation to having 5 consistent employees, we purchased a new chipper at $69,000 back in early 2021 and were planning to save and buy a mill to allow us to add an additional stream of income. We were looking to purchase new truck(s) and dumper as our work trucks are older Fords from the 90’s that constantly require maintenance, it seemed like every other week the truck was being repaired, losing time and many days of work due to truck repairs. In addition, they are all standard transmission which has always been a challenge when hiring, 90% of our hires did not drive a manual transmission, having automatic transmissions in new trucks would have allowed us to have two crews running at once to keep up with all of the work flowing in. We won the best tree service award in 2021 and 2022 in the city of Coquitlam as well as Burnaby and we wear that with a lot of pride.

In August of 2021, while the crew and I were unloading some wood from my truck, I fell off the back tailgate landing on my shoulder, resulting in a torn rotator cuff. Due to my injury, I was working at about 20% capacity, which was extremely stressful. I could no longer lift my arm straight up to cut branches which resulted in me having to hire subcontractors taking a large portion of the income I would have been making. In November 2021, I had shoulder surgery. After the surgery, the pain and range of motion on my arm was even worse, it was debilitating. I was unable to do quotes, lift myself in and out of my truck, lift more than 20 pounds and was even unable to pick up my young daughter.

The surgery had failed and almost a year later I had to go back in for a second surgery, this took me out all of 2022 and into the first 3 quarters of 2023. This also resulted in depression and increased anxiety that I was losing the business that I worked so hard for. I had a new child at this time, my wife was on a leave, bringing in half of her normal salary and I was no longer able to climb. I lost my employees, bills got behind and the business took the hardest hit. After, physio, perseverance and drive to get my business back where it was, I regained much of my strength, and I started climbing again. I’m back at work now and ready to get things going again, just as they were prior to my injury. I am again able to lift my arm, hold weight, climb, repel and finally hold a chainsaw above my head, comfortably.

I have always had big dreams of getting a fleet of trucks, and watching my business expand, succeed, and work to its highest potential, growing more and more over time. I look at big name tree companies and see them expanding across Canada and into the United States and I can see my business doing that, I have the drive and capability to make that happen. My goal is to get my business back on its feet, hire an administrator that can take on the payroll and the taxes and organize jobs and I can focus on my craft, which is climbing. Too much of my time is spent doing admin tasks that take me away from potential jobs, quotes and family time. I have fallen behind with my Worksafe payments and need to catch up, as well I have backdated taxes owed to the CRA. I am looking for any type of assistance or guidance to assist me with not only catching up, but obtaining reliable vehicles, great employees and expand my business.

I would like to offer employee benefits and training courses as well as educating employees as well as myself to become ISA certified and certified for utility work. I would like to be a consistent top pick when municipalities require work and I want to take on larger contracts.

I have hired from craigslist and always spent a lot of time training people, that worked out great for a month or two and they leave not recognizing that the labor is quite demanding, they are dealing with tough weather conditions and always have to have a safety mindset. This is an extremely dangerous industry; I would like help finding quality and qualified employees. I want to offer more to help with employee retention, I find it difficult to remain competitive with other companies that offer so many additional benefits. I would like to provide that to my potential hires, such as covering new employee PPE, offering employee medical and dental benefits, and provide ongoing training, development and work opportunities and create an amazing workplace and a thriving business.

I am very much looking forward to discussing further.
