Grey Ghost Farm

Grey Ghost Farm is a small family operation near Savona, British Columbia that provides naturally-raised lamb, beef and produce, and has a passion for community, sustainability, and sharing the joy of our farm with others.

Grey Ghost Farm raises mostly South African Dorpers, with the occasional Texel terminal cross. The Dorper sheep was bred by the Department of Agriculture of South Africa when they crossed Dorset Horn Rams and Blackhead Persian ewes. From this humble beginning, the breed proved itself as hardy mutton sheep with a top quality, minimal-fat carcass at a relatively early age and the most sought after sheepskin in the world.

Known primarily for their fertility, hardiness, and long breeding season, the Dorper are a great sustainable farm breed. They’re exceptionally adaptable to various climates and environments; at our farm, the lambs grow well, in part because of the ewes’ excellent mothering skills and milk production.

Our beef herd consists of Limousin and Angus cross commercial cows, naturally raised on farm and summer range, grazing wild bunch grass. Like our Dorpers, the Limousin cattle are known primarily for hardiness, easy breeding, easy calving, good milking qualities, fast growth and the production of exceptionally high-yielding carcasses with little fat.

Produce ranges from garlic to a variety of field crops, usually by request of our regular customers. Grey Ghost Farm has expansion plans that include introducing natural honey, fruits and hothouse crops in the next few years.
