Healthy Land, Healthy People

Healthy Land, Healthy People supports understanding and conservation of the natural environment through a commitment to professional, quality, and principled services involving naturescaping, ecological restoration, food sovereignty, and herbalism.

A foundation for a healthy society is a healthy environment. Today we face many challenges, including the rapid degradation of our local and global environment and associated species. Although difficult, these circumstances present humanity with great opportunities to make important changes in our beliefs and behaviours that can improve the environment, especially in semi-urban and urban areas. For example, threats can be managed and actions taken to restore degraded habitats and species. With more natural areas and an increased understanding and connection to them and our fellow species, our lives will be much more rich and healthy.

Healthy Land, Healthy People provides professional services to conserve, enhance, and restore biodiversity (e.g., ecosystems and processes, connectivity, native species, pollinators) and support sustainable food systems (e.g., independence, education/awareness, environmental conservation – water, soil). We work with governments, non-governmental organizations, private businesses, and landowners and collaborate with other professionals to meet client needs.

Our goal is to empower our clients to improve the environment and their lives through on-the-ground stewardship actions. For example, are you interested in transforming your lawn into a diverse ecological community (e.g., wildflower meadow)? Do you have an invasive species (e.g., Himalayan blackberry) that’s taking over or you’re having trouble removing? Would you like to turn your roof or wall into a living green space? Do you want to manage and create more resources at your home for native wildlife and yourself? Some of the ecosystems and features Healthy Land, Healthy People focuses on include water bodies (e.g., streams, ponds), rain gardens, bioswales, ornamental gardens, lawns, roofs, farm lands, and commercial spaces.
