Kwa’lilas Hotel

Port Hardy’s premier First Nations destination hotel

Located on the traditional territories of the Kwakiutl people in Port Hardy, the Kwa’lilas Hotel is a proud demonstration of the commitment of the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations to share our history, Culture and homeland in a meaningful and memorable way with our guests. Regarded as the region’s premier First Nations destination hotel, its distinctive exterior uses local cedar and its architecture honors the authentic “big house” style with a smoke hole at the top of the building. Traditionally, when visitors see smoke coming from a big house, it means Welcome! Gilakas’la!

Inside our welcoming hotel, you will find 85 luxurious guest rooms and suites; our décor celebrates authentic local Indigenous arts and artists including masks, Cultural designs and music, including a stunning copper art piece depicting history and legends of our people. This is our way of sharing our Culture, and we open our hearts to you.

Enjoy First Nations-inspired cuisine and service in our ‘Ha’me restaurant; relax with great food and drinks at Nax’ID Pub; browse for a special keepsake in our gift shop or simply grab a specialty coffee and pastry to go at our in-house Café. During your stay, enjoy one of our regularly scheduled Cultural activities within the hotel and join us on a unique guided outbound ocean and forest Cultural tours to complete your experience.

The Kwa’lilas Hotel also has the newest, most comprehensive banquet, meeting and conference facilities on North Vancouver Island offering a total of over 4,000 square feet of meeting and event space including a large ballroom and full catering facilities available.

We respectfully acknowledge our place of work is within the ancestral, traditional and unceded territories of the Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaʔɬ/sel̓ílwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and that we serve the Peoples of the many Nations throughout British Columbia.
