MeccaTea began as a passion project to bring tea culture to the community around me. I study tea seriously: it’s quality and flavours, to the land where it grows, which aids in understanding why it tastes like it does. This is a way to appreciate different countries simply for the land: tea grown in China is much different from Taiwan; is much different from Nepal. I source tea that is grown sustainably and sometimes from smaller producers. Buying sustainable means choosing to support farmers who are keeping the Earth healthy, and thus providing a finished product with more health benefits for my customers. I have a goal to start a tea house where people can join together and drink fine tea, simply for enjoyment, or as a means of gathering, or sitting alone with a book.
For a little over a year, I sold loose leaf tea at Port Alberni’s Spirit Square Farmer’s market, and online. Now, I have opened a proper tea house! Having an official space to prepare tea for customers with the vast variety I have to offer is what I was always hoping to provide.
Now located at 2990 Alberni Hwy, Port Alberni, BC. We offer $5 “All-You-Can-Drink” tea service, custom blends, wildcrafted teas etc.
This is the best place on the island to find Puerh: a fermented tea that aids in digestion and is loaded with polyphenols, it cleanses toxins and free radicals. It can be naturally or artificially aged, each with their own very unique flavour.
The tea house is a very unique and adorable spot to visit and enjoy fine tea, coffee, Yerba mate, and so many different herbs with great health benefits.
