Great company and smooth move! Short version: 1) Easy to communicate friendly and knowledgeable staff 2) Accurate and detailed written quote 3) Informed me of necessary city permits 4) Access to container in Kelowna yard with 24 hrs notice 5) We packed and secured our own container for peace of mind 6) Company has heavy duty security locks available for purchase 7) Made a move and two-month storage cost effective compared to a moving company. 8) I would highly recommend Secure-Rite Details: We moved our house and shop from Vancouver to Kelowna and after reviewing all of our options, we decided to go with Secure-Rite and we please with the entire process. Our move required two 20-foot containers to be dropped off in Vancouver at two different locations, at two different times, then transported to Kelowna, to be stored for two months and finally delivered, to our new home, one at a time. The company had no problem with dropping the containers exactly where we needed them (look at the space requirement guidelines before you decide on final drop location.) They informed me that I would need a city permit in Vancouver and Kelowna if I needed to drop the containers on the street. This was appreciated as I hadn’t thought of it. Vancouver city permit was cheaper than Kelowna city permit. We could have dropped the container on our driveway in Kelowna, as we had enough room, and it would have saved us the permit fee, but watching the truck pick up the container we realized there was a possibility of the container scraping the driveway as it is loaded on to the trailer. I would recommend taking precautions and laying down a plywood base for the corners if you are setting it on a surface you are concerned about. Once the containers landed in the storage lot in Kelowna, we were able to access them with 24 hours’ notice. Of course, it was pouring rain when we loaded in Vancouver and I was worried about the moisture in the house container- nothing had shifted in the move and everything was dry. Even though the container is well ventilated and water tight, I was able to throw in some desiccant packs as it would sit for another two months before we were able to unpack. We purchased the locks that the company recommends to secure the container (an additional fee) and it was well worth the cost. We were able to pack and secure our own containers for our own peace of mind. Things we did to make the move easier: 1) We built a plywood and 2x4 platform that was the height of the sidewalk so we could wheel the dolly right to the end of the container. 2) We had plenty of tie down straps and moving blankets 3) We wrapped all of our furniture with cardboard and shrink wrap so we were able to stack it tight and compact without worrying about shifting and friction 4) We purchased 65 heavy duty stacking containers (stack 5 high) that we used as partitions and platforms in the container instead of just relying on cardboard boxes. Things that could have been better: 1) Informing customer of when the move from Vancouver to Kelowna would happen. I had to call and check a few times to see when the container would arrive. Would be great to have an email confirmation of when the container was at its storage destination. 2) Tie downs in the container- would be great to have a center set of tiedown hooks along the container instead of just the top and bottom ones.
