Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea

A unique non-profit organization, the Centre combines live aquarium habitats and marine mammal artifact displays with a permanent Coast Salish art collection, as well as public and school learning programs and the locally-focused Salish Sea Store – providing an amazing opportunity for learning, exploration, and conservation of the natural beauty, ecological diversity, and cultural story of the Salish Sea.

Connecting the public with the Salish Sea Bioregion and its ecosystems through engagement, knowledge and awareness, the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea offers a fun, interactive and informative experience of science and culture to visitors of all ages. It is a top destination for families, school groups, and tourists as the only aquarium in Greater Victoria and Canada’s only aquarium and learning centre dedicated exclusively to the Salish Sea.
Located on the breathtaking Sidney waterfront – on the traditional lands of the WSÁNEĆ Nations of the Coast Salish Indigenous peoples – the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea opened in 2009 and is an award winning aquarium and learning centre dedicated exclusively to the Salish Sea Bioregion.
The Salish Sea Store is the place in Sidney for locally-made, coastal-themed artisanal goods, gifts, cards, toys, housewares, clothing, edibles, books, jewelry, artwork, sustainability products, and more!

We stumbled on this gem and are so happy we did! We very much appreciated the pandemic precautions this Center is taking. I thought the displays were so engaging and thoughtfully laid out. It is just a beautiful facility! But the best part was the staff. I love how engaged they were with us and the other guests. We learned so much from them! We would be checking out an exhibit and a staff would approach us and provide more information or ran fun games. We loved the whale matching game as well as the touch pool! Also loved how we could go through the Center multiple times and the free underground parking! The gift shop also has some beautiful items. 10/10 would come here again.
