The Nulla Project

We are Victoria’s first reusable cup service for coffee shops & restaurants

The Nūlla Project currently provides a reusable returnable cup service to coffee shops in Victoria, Brentwood Bay & the Southern Gulf Islands. Our service gives customers an easy, convenient and affordable alternative to single-use cups while preserving and improving the to-go culture. At the counter of our partners, customers get a cup and lid for a $5 deposit. A full refund is offered to customers when cups and lids are returned. Participating establishments clean and sanitize cups and lids in their dishwashers and recirculate them.

Customers are strongly encouraged to use and return their cups to keep the cups in circulation. Cups can be used 400 times or more; keeping them in use through the Nūlla network is what we aim to accomplish. Reusing is at the core of our mission. Single-use items have a high environmental footprint, are wasteful, hard to compost and rarely recycled. We are interested in expanding our services by offering reusable containers and partnering local businesses, training institutions, event management companies, tourism authorities (cruise ship terminal, airport, etc.) farmers markets and festival organizers.

We respectfully acknowledge our place of work is within the ancestral, traditional and unceded territories of the Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaʔɬ/sel̓ílwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and that we serve the Peoples of the many Nations throughout British Columbia.
