At Wychbury Ave Soaps we create sustainably and ethically-made bath and body products with social justice and equity as our motivating force.
In 2011, I participated in a cycling tour with the Otesha project alongside 13 other women. We traveled the Sunshine Coast, the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island by bicycle, performing a play to teach communities about sustainability and social justice. During the tour and on my return, I found it difficult to find bath and body brands that included equity and social justice in their sustainable practices. Environmentally sustainable packaging and raw materials are important, but we must seek to make our brands accessible and reciprocal. We cannot be truly sustainable as a brand if our communities do not thrive or include people of all demographics, races, and abilities. Many brands focus on sustainability, but fail to include equity in their approach. Wychbury Ave was born out of this need for soaps and bath products that were not only made with environmentally friendly and ethically-sourced ingredients, but with equity and social justice in mind.
